1. Unseen by Mari Jungstedt

The tiny island of Gotland, Sweden, is gearing up for their Midsummer celebrations and an influx of tourists. When Helena Hillerstrom’s body, and that of her loyal dog, is found covered in ax wounds on the beach, it looks like her jealous boyfriend, who caught an old friend dancing with Helena before her death, is to blame. Then a second victim is found in a local cemetery after a night out with girlfriends.

Inspector Anders Knutas is under sever pressure from the media and locals when it becomes apparent that a serial killer is striking the small island. Johan Berg, a journalist from Stockholm sent to cover the case, also becomes involved with the investigation, especially when he falls in love with Emma, Helena’s childhood friend, who may have the clues as to how is behind the series of murders.

This book had a great setting and suspenseful atmosphere. Since I love Swedish mysteries, this was a great new author to discover. Jungstedt has worked as a TV journalist in Stockholm and lives on Gotland. Hopefully her other books will be translated into English soon. For fans of Henning Mankell, Hakan Nesser, and Karin Fossum.
