76. Eat the Dark by Joe Schreiber

Tanglewood Memorial Hospital is closing its doors for good – but not before one more patient makes an emergency visit. Frank Snow is a psychotic prisoner accused of being a mass murderer. Under heavy guard, he is brought into Tanglewood to have an MRI. He ends up escaping, and putting the remaining hospital workers in danger. MRI technician Mike Hughes is one of those trapped, including his wife and young son, who happen to visit Mike on his last day of work. As the night goes on, and Snow starts psychologically tormenting the staff in a terrifying cat and mouse chase, the Hughes family wonders if they will be getting out alive.

Part horror and part suspense, this taught novel pulls readers in with its short chapters and growing tension. It has a great setting in rural Pennsylvania with people trapped in an enclosed space. There are some supernatural elements to this novel, which readers may or may not like. If you like classic 80's horror movies, this is a perfect, terrifying read. For readers of Dean Koontz or early Stephen King.
